Innovation and growth are the drivers for success at Bryan University, and our Executive Director of Learning and Development Dr. Larry Banks recently touched on what it takes to keep an institution going strong as it grows in the latest edition of Career Education Review.
Career Education Review is a career college resource that provides in-depth information and insights to leaders, managers, owners, and organizations, on what it takes to operate a successful educational institution. It’s been in circulation for more than 95 years!
Dr. Banks’ article for the CER is titled “Orchestrating Excellence: A Conductor’s Guide to Institutional Effectiveness.” In it, Dr. Banks uses the comparison of leading a university to conducting an orchestra. He emphasizes the importance of university leaders “reinforcing each team member’s role in advancing strategic goals,” and equates it to how a conductor unifies diverse instrumental sections for a cohesive performance.
“Orchestrating excellence in terms of leadership implies guiding and harmonizing various elements within an organization to achieve outstanding results. It involves a leader acting like a conductor, ensuring that every part of the organization works together seamlessly towards a common goal. The job of a school leader is to coordinate, communicate, and provide strategic vision to drive institutional effectiveness,” his article says.
