This month’s Bryan University employee spotlight is Danette Grantz, M.Ed. Danette has been an adjunct faculty at BU since October 2021. Danette was an adjunct professor at another institution when her friend, Rosetta Lilly, told her how much she enjoyed working at BU. She applied for an adjunct position with BU and began working as a Graphic and Web Design faculty member.
Danette appreciates the diversity found amongst the students at the staff at Bryan. She is passionate about building strong connections with others and acknowledges that everyone has a unique life journey. Danette takes special care to help her students understand their value and worth. “Relationships are even more important in an online setting. I do my best to encourage each individual and cheer them on along the way.”
Danette feels that the staff at Bryan University emulates teamwork. “We support and inspire each other every day.” She also finds the growth mindset culture at BU to be a central thread throughout the university. Danette believes firmly in the BU Core value to Continuously Improve. As a teacher for thirty-one years, she always seeks to improve herself as a professional and person. And takes pride that students have many opportunities to continuously improve throughout their schooling at BU. “I love helping students realize their full potential.”
Not only does Danette enjoy helping her students, but she also loves helping her colleagues. She recently mentored three new faculty members and felt honored to participate. “It was rewarding to guide these new faculty members through their first course; it was also beneficial for me to learn new ideas from them and witness the talented people we have on our team.”
Working at BU has been inspiring for Danette. “I am inspired by my students’ hard work and determination.” She sees that so many of her students not only attend school but many have full-time jobs and families. She receives many messages of gratitude from her students. While she credits the students for their achievements, she knows that her part in making a difference in their lives is a gift she will always be grateful for.
