This month we’re spotlighting Bryan University Faculty Scheduler and Support Coordinator Nancy Swerdloff! As Nancy gets ready to mark her one-year milestone in May, she reflects on what she’s experienced so far and how much she loves the atmosphere at BU.

“It has been amazing to witness the support from others, as well as the motivation and positivity that surround me. The support and training I’ve received have been invaluable, and it’s uplifting to be in such a positive environment.”

Before joining the BU team, Nancy spent 24 years in engineering as a project manager. Seeking a change of pace, she discovered her passion for higher education through her experience working with multiple professors at the University of Central Florida while earning her engineering and management degrees.

In her role, Nancy collaborates with program directors, instructors, and other staff within the education department to coordinate instructor schedules, manage contracts, assist with faculty certifications, and more. She enjoys working with such a diverse group of people and being involved in a variety of tasks, which keeps every day exciting.

Of BU’s core values she said ‘Trust and Be Trusted’ is her motivator. She’s motivated by the opportunity to help others and make a meaningful impact on students, particularly by creating schedules that are as accommodating as possible for instructors.

Outside of work, she loves going to farmers’ markets and festivals, especially anything food-themed! She and her husband enjoy traveling in their RV and taking it for long weekends like they did for a recent trip to St. Augustine. She also loves to bake from scratch!

In line with her love for foodie-related events, she’s also passionate about food insecurity, and she volunteered annually for more than 10 years with the Second Harvest Food Bank when she lived in Orlando.

“I’m very grateful to have grown up in a home where we never had to worry about having food in the house. I believe that if more people can pitch in, fewer families would have to go hungry. It’s something I’ve always held close to my heart,” she said.

She always wanted to learn sign language, and she said she couldn’t live without her family and chocolate.

Nancy has found a fulfilling work-life balance since joining BU and as an empty nester, she said she feels very content with her current stage of life. Now, her goal is to help others experience that same sense of peace and balance. She aspires for her work to have a positive impact on those she collaborates with, offering support and helping to ease their work-life challenges, so they can thrive both professionally and personally.

She loves that at BU she feels like more than just an employee, but a part of something bigger. Her advice for anyone considering a job at BU is: “I encourage you to take the opportunity — it’s a rewarding path. BU is an amazing place to work where people truly care about each other. Even though most of us work remotely, I still feel a sense of community through activities and clubs, such as the book club and wellness Wednesday,” she said. “Sometimes, taking a leap into the unexpected can open the door to opportunities that can transform your professional life.”
