Bryan U Employee Spotlight: Nikki Cox, Leave Of Absence Associate

Meet Nikki Cox, a Leave of Absence Associate at Bryan University. Nikki has worked at BU for two years; she found her role searching for remote job opportunities after having her daughter.

Nikki works with BU students who need to take a leave of absence. She files the necessary documents on behalf of the student and helps ensure they return to BU.

“Additionally, I have the privilege of working with students in a SAP (Satisfactory Academic Progress) Appeal status. I calculate and create a curated plan for each of those students and work with them to ensure they complete those documents and understand what they mean.”

Of BU’s six core values, Nikki said she resonates the most with Own It. “Taking ownership of our responsibilities and our mistakes allows us to celebrate successes and improvements as a BU family and as individuals.”

Nikki thrives on completing tasks and giving her work her all.

I’m internally motivated, which allows me to succeed in the positions I hold. I thrive on completing things off my checklist and making sure that I always give 110%. The feeling of completing something is enough to keep me going.”

Within the BU family, Nikki gets inspiration from Dylan Matsumori, the Director of Institutional Effectiveness. Dylan hired Nikki and was her manager when he was over Student Affairs and Re-Entry as the Dean of Students and Director of University Accessibility Services. Nikki worked with Dyaln for about a year before he was appointed to his current position.

“He radiates such a positive energy that allows for a happy and healthy working environment. He has a trusting nature that allows the people he works with to want to be better and always do their best. He is genuine when he speaks with you and he goes above and beyond at all that he does.”

In addition to working at BU and being a mom, Nikki also runs a women’s clothing business out of her home. She started running Mae Threads last year. In the future, she sees it as a full-time job.

“I currently run the business out of our home and market it on social media outlets. You can follow us on Instagram at maethreads or check out our website, maethreads.com.”

Most people don’t know that Nikki enjoys macrame and drawing in her free time. Something else some people don’t know is that Nikki is due with her second child in a month!
